2 Dozen Roses

As I mentioned before, there are many songs about roses. Here is some information about a few of the artists that have sung about “Roses,” and the title of the song.

Bette Midler: An American singer, actress and producer that was born in Hawaii. She founded the New York Restoration Project in 1995.

Linda Ronstadt: An extremely versatile singer, songwriter, actress and producer who was born in Tucson, Arizona. She has sung everything from Opera to Rock.

Song: Love is A Rose

Kenny Rogers:  Kenny was born on August 21, 1938, in Houston, TX. Along with singing he is a song writer, photographer, record producer, and actor. His first record was done with a doo-wop group called The Scholars.

Marie Osmond: Marie was born in Utah. She is the only girl in the family and has 8 brothers. She has performed on Broadway in The King and I, The Sound of Music and Donny & Marie – A Broadway Christmas. She helped co-found the Children’s Miracle Network in 1983.

Gregorian Chant:  Gregorian Chant is a German band that was founded by Frank Peterson. It’s members are Richard Naxton, Johnny Clucas, Chris Tickner, Richard Collier, Gerry O’Beine, Lawrence White and Rob Fardell. They have 8 Master of Chants albums and 7 other albums to their credit. The group crosses Chanting with pop/rock to create a unique style of music.

Gaelic Storm: Gaelic Storm is an American Celtic band that performs traditional Irish and Scottish music, as well as many original songs. The current members are: Patrick Murphy (founder), Steve Twigger (founder), Ryan Lacy, Peter Purvis, Jessie Burns. This group appeared in the movie Titanic. They have 9 albums and tour heavily every year.

Dominic Kirwan: Dominic is from Omagh in Co. Tyrone, Northern Ireland. He recorded his first solo single in 1984 and has recorded 14 albums since then. His sons Colm and Barry are also talented singers.

Frank Sinatra: Francis Albuer Sinatra was born in 1915 in Koboken, New Jersey and died in 1998 in Los Angeles, California. Johnny Fontane a character in The Godfather, is based on Sinatra’s life.

Dolly Parton: Dolly was born in Sevierville, TN in 1946 and is the 4th of 12 children. She began writing music at the age of 4. Along with singing she plays many instruments: guitar, banjo, autoharp, piano, drums, Appalachian dulcimer, harmonica, pennywhistle, recorder, fiddle, bass guitar and saxophone. The musical 9 to 5: The Musical was written by Dolly and Patricia Resnick.

Johnny Cash: Cash was born in 1932 in Arkansas and died in 2003 in Nashville, TN. He is considered one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century. In 1997 he was diagnosed with Autonomic Neuropathy associated with diabetes, which ended his touring.

Runrig: Runrig is a Celtic Rock band from Skye, Scotland that formed in 1973. Current members are Rory and Calum Macdonald (founders), Malcolm Jone, Ian Bayne, Bruce Guthro and Brian Hurren. The group has released 13 studio albums, both in English and in Scottish Gaelic, along with 5 live albums and 4 compilation albums.

Song: The Only Rose

Shenandoah:  A country band formed in 1984 in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. They performed together until 1997, in 2000 they reformed with a few new members. Shenandoah’s music  has a country, bluegrass, gospel feel. The current members are Jimmy Yeary, Mike Folsom, Mike McGuire, Stan Munsey and Jim Seales. They have 9 studio albums under their belt.
